T- 1 month!

Last Tuesday we played our second intramural soccer playoff game and won this one. So we have one more game we get to play tomorrow before our "season" is over. I have a feeling this is my game to score a goal. I will keep you updated.

On Wednesday at the early hour of 9 am both teams gathered at a medical clinic here to watch a short presentation on travel safety and get our vaccinations. I was relieved to hear Sao Paulo is not in a high risk area for Yellow Fever so I didn't have to pay the two hundred and some dollars for that shot. That being said it would be pretty funny if I ended up yellow with fever! I got three shots, one flu shot, my third hep B shot and one that started with a T :) Needless to say my arms were sore for a while after!
Waiting for everyone to get registered in the waiting room

The room where it all happened, my team mates thought I was crazy for bringing a camera.
Smile :)

Checking what shots I need, "I don't need Polio I'm with team Brazil"

Lets hope this works!
So after were all vaccinated it was time to get everything ready for the silent auction in Calgary.

Now we were all assigned with the task of bringing goodies for people to snack on while silently auctioning away their lives. I decided friday night was a good night to stay in and try my hand at baking. Now that's just it, I tried. First up to bake were the brownies. I mixed the batter with the egg and oil put in some walnuts just like the recipe said... Put the pan in the pre-heated oven and, not thinking about how hot our oven gets,  left them in for 30 minutes. I put marshmallows on top 4 minutes before taking them out and put candy on top with drizzled chocolate icing to top it all off... YUMMM Let me tell you, they looked delicious. I let them fully cool before cutting them in to squares.. well trying to cut them in to squares. My brownies were hard as a rock on the bottom and made a nice thud as I placed them on the cutting board. Although the most edible parts tasted pretty good, they were not good.
Sooo I made the most delicious non-bakable marshmallow squares with mini-marshmallows and butterscotch chips.. YUMMMM (for real this time)

On Saturday we were all to meet at the church for the auction at 130pm to set up and get everything ready for the start of the auction at 6pm. The weather in Lethbridge had been nice all week but decided to throw snow at us on Saturday. I carpooled up with 2 other GYN members and the roads were so horrible we were going 70 km/h the whole way. Luckily though everyone made it to the church safely for a smooth set up. After some pizza and a quick meeting it was time for the auction to start. Our members gave some great speeches, desserts got eaten, a well put together slide show played, and money was raised :) All in all a successful night followed by a celebratory beer at a pub close by.
Finishing touches before the start of the auction

Good job team .  The night would not have been possible without the support of parents and the great work put in by our leaders annd everyone on the team. Awesome. Good job EVERYONE :)

Oh yeah.. Guess what?? ONE MONTH TODAY AND WE ARE GOOOOONE... What's next on the agenda? Stay tuned as the adventure is just around the corner!   Cheers

  1. This is exciting Annessa. I'm a little jealous you get to travel to rad places while I just work. Although Vancouver should be pretty chill.
